I noticed the other day that there was a slight clanking from the paseenger front as if there was a loose panel. Turns out that under the car, there exists a set of aluminum and plastic trays to aid in aerodynamics and to protect the engine from debris. One of the bolts had come loose and the tray was dangling. Thought the fix would be pretty easy. Turns out, I had to work up a bypass.

A closeup of the bolt shows that it attaches to a nearby plastic cover. It also turns out that that plastic cover is no longer present. To top it off, the bolt is welded to the clasp and I can’t remove it without cutting it off. Perplexing.

Turns out that nearly all of the latches have been replaced or reinforced with zip ties. The following is of the driver’s side. Someone really wanted to keep this tray on (and I thank them!)

Since I don’t have tools to cut the bolt out, I would just have to zip tie it up myself. I only had small ones though.

And here’s where I believe there should be a plastic cover. The rest of the front is covered and there seem to exist tabs where one should attache here. I’ll have to do some digging.

Hopefully this will stop the clanking, even if it’s just a short-term fix.
